2009.07.20

1.  The summer school session of our Huaxia Chinese School will end on Saturday, July 25th.  We will have a celebration at the school starting at 11 a.m.

2.  The students participating in the YCT summer camp program will be departing for two weeks in China starting on August 2nd.  The group will be visiting Beijing and Xian during this time and learning Chinese along the way.

3.  Travis Ostlund, the first bilingual graduate from our Huaxia Chinese School, is now in Beijing studying Chinese at Beijing Normal University.  Travis received a "full scholarship" for this program and he is having a great time learning about Chinese culture and touring.  Congratulations again to Travis for his great achievement.

4.  We welcome all returning and new students to our Huaxia Chinese School.  After a long, very hot summer, we are happy to be starting our Chinese lessons again.  As you can see from the calendar, we begin our school year on Saturday, September 12th, 2009.

This year we will be offering classes for children in "pre-school,", 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 10th grades.  Classes are offered in Pin yin and simlifed Chinese characters.  Also, we will continue to offer a class for Bilingual students, an Experimental Class (new teaching methods), a Credit class, and an Pre-AP training Class.  Additionally, we will continue to offer Caiyi class in cooking, chess, singing, dancing, chess, violin, drawing, and possibly others.

We are looking for a Martial Arts instructor and a children's dance instructor.  If we can find teachers for these activities, we will offer them as a "Caiyi" class.  Please contact Principal Tina Tian at tina.huaxia@yahoo.com or                909-21...       .  All Caiyi classes begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and continue for one hour.

Our Huaxia School is putting on a grand performance on Friday, January 30, 2009 at the Memorial Chapel of the University of Redlands.  The event will start at 7:30 p.m. and run for about two hours.

We are fortunate that we are going to host a visit from the China Children's Art Troupe of Friendship from the Cathay Future Art Center in Tianjin, China.  This Art Center was founded in 1995 and trains young children in all aspects of the performing arts.  The Art Center's children, between the ages of 9 - 11, have performed in over 60 countries and are visiting the USA and Canada this year.  We decided to have a fund-raising event and to include local talent along with the visitors from China.  The fund raising will be for our school and for the North High School band, which is now preparing to visit Jiangmen, China, this spring.  Please see the attached one-page flyer that we are circulating over the Internet to all of our friends and associates.  We are looking for sponsors and those who wish to purchase advertising space in our 16 page Event Program to hand out the evening of the performance.  Tickets for the event can be purchased from any of our school representatives, or from the University of Redlands' web-site, http://www.redlands.edu/events. For more ticket information, click Here.
